Yorkshire’s sheer size means “dog-friendly Yorkshire” covers very different kinds of break — a coastal stay near Scarborough or Bridlington is a different experience entirely to a base in the Yorkshire Dales.

Coast vs Dales vs Moors

The Yorkshire coast offers dog-friendly beaches (with the usual seasonal restrictions on the busiest stretches), the Dales offer classic dry-stone-wall countryside walking, and the North York Moors add heather moorland into the mix — decide on landscape first, then narrow down location.

Livestock and lead rules

Much of the Dales and Moors is working farmland — keep dogs on leads around sheep and cattle, particularly during lambing season, and check local signage as you go.
