Devon’s coastline and countryside make it one of the most popular counties in the UK for a second lodge purchase, and the second-hand market gives you a wider choice of style and price point than buying new.
Sea views cost more — for good reason
Lodges advertised with sea views in Devon command a premium, and it’s worth visiting at different times of day before buying, since a “partial sea view” can mean very different things depending on the season and the trees around the plot.
Freehold vs leasehold sites
Most holiday lodges in Devon sit on leasehold park pitches with an annual site fee, but a smaller number are sold freehold — meaning you own the land outright. Freehold lodges tend to hold their value differently and don’t carry the same ongoing pitch fee, but do your own checks on access rights, drainage and any restrictive covenants before buying.
What to check before you view
Ask for the age of the lodge, when it was last serviced, and whether the current site fees and any resale commission are clearly stated. A second-hand lodge that’s been well maintained on a good park can be excellent value against buying new.
